John Lopez, a sculptor, was born and raised in Western South Dakota. He had a successful career as a bronze sculptor before discovering the art of scrap iron sculpting. His career path shifted direction after the death of his beloved aunt, Effie Hunt. After her passing, Lopez moved to his now widowed Uncle Geno Hunt’s ranch.
There, Lopez built a family cemetery; is aunt was the first to be laid there. Lopez constructed a fence around the cemetery but then ran out of materials from his Uncle Geno’s welding shop. Lopez looked for scrap iron around the ranch – it was 35 miles away from the nearest town. Lopez found enough materials to finish the fence, and he made a gate into the cemetery.
Over the gate, he put a small angel. His new career was born! John got a lot of satisfaction out of the project and everyone who saw it was amazed! John found a way to merge bronze and scrap iron sculpting together. His sculpture welded art will leave you breathless! Here are some of his creations.
