Boy Is So Sick He Can Barely Stand. But What He Does For Prince Harry Has Me In Tears
At a recent ceremony that recognized young children in their careers, one little boy used all his strength to hug Prince Harry. Five-year-old Ollie Carroll used everything he had to get up and hug the prince.
The boy suffers from a condition known as Batten disease, which is an extremely rare and fatal autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorder that begins in childhood. The disease is caused by genetic mutations which in turn causes lipofuscins that accumulate within the body’s tissues. Affected children suffer mental impairment, worsening seizures, and progressive loss of sight, speech and motor skills over time.
Eventually, children with Batten disease become blind, bedridden, suffering from dementia and die. Batten disease is a terminal disease and the life expectancy varies depending on the type or variation.Ollie, who was recognized as one of the children recognized at the WellChild Awards, used all of his strength to stand up and throw his arms around Prince Harry.
