Cat missing for 4 years after earthquake joyfully reunited with elderly owner
In the midst of a natural disaster, chaos and wreckage ensue.
Back in 2016, a large earthquake measuring 6.2 on the scale of Richter struck Central Italy which causes a ton of damage – it was even the largest tremor recorded on Earth since 2009.
Tragically, more than 300 people lost their lives, with another 400 seriously injured. 4500 people became homeless overnight, and over 65,000 people had to be displaced.
“The 6.2-magnitude quake struck at 3.36am when most were still asleep, razing homes, buckling roads and burying residents under mounds of masonry in the hardest-hit towns of Amatrice, Accumoli and Arquata del Tronto.
More than 12 hours after the initial tremor, bulldozers and earthmovers rumbled slowly up winding, deeply fissured roads, while temporary camps and kitchens were being set up to house and feed the several thousand made homeless,” The Guardian wrote about the natural disaster.
Everything was in ruins and completely in chaos, and the more than 2,500 aftershocks that could be felt across the whole country definitely didn’t help either.
“The situation is dramatic, there are many dead. Rescue efforts are under way and it is very, very difficult,” the mayor of Amatrice, Sergio Pirozzi, said to the local reporters. “Much of the village has disappeared.”
Dora, an elderly woman, not only lost her home in the earthquake, she lost her best friend too.
Her absolutely beloved cat was completely in panic and had gone missing in the chaos, and Dora never saw her feline friend again. They used to do everything together, and they shared an unbreakable bond full of unconditional love and cuddles.
The cat fled the scene and the house and probably had no idea what was going on either. With everything shaking severely and almost an entire city in ruins, the poor cat did what he believed was best for his survival: run as far away as possible to safety.
At least, until now.
More than four years after the horrible events, Dora and her cat have finally reunited.
Even when all hope seems lost, miracles can certainly still happen. Despite the chances of ever finding the cat were low, apparently, Dora never stopped looking for her missing family member.
Dora herself isn’t active on social media, but one of her close friends recently announced that these two have found each other again and have had an absolutely wholesome reunion.
“Our dear Dora has never stopped looking for him,” her friend Mimma Bei posted on her Facebook profile. “Who knows where he had have been for so long.”
“You won’t understand our dear Dora’s dialect, but it doesn’t matter…
Just look in silence, to get excited strongly! ❤❤❤ Dora and Mimmo found each other years after the earthquake… But where has the kitten been all this time!!!” Mimma added.
The reunion was somewhat a miracle: the cat simply returned home!
He wasn’t found in a rescue center, he wasn’t residing at a shelter – one day, he just came home. After all those years, this feline four-footer seemingly still knew where his home and heart were.
Luckily, the cat didn’t seem to be in a bad shape, he seemed to be doing okay health-wise and didn’t look malnourished either.
It seems like he was able to keep his belly full during his four-year-long expedition.
Dora’s friend Mimma captured their reunion on camera, and it’s just an absolutely adorable sight to behold. The two of them bump their foreheads together, and then we see the feline giving his owner some absolutely adorable cuddles.
It’s clear that these two have a whole lot of catching up to do!
After four years of surviving on the streets, the cat finally has his warm and loving home back – and Dora couldn’t be more thrilled to spend her days with her feline friend again.
