Parents trust bus driver with kids never guessing he’d hatch plan when school is delayed

Wayne Price from Montevallo is just a regular bus driver, but he’s one of the most well-liked people in the community and after his recent stunt, perhaps even a local celebrity.

Everybody knows him as a kindhearted man with a warm heart for all of his students on the bus.

The man actually used to be a contractor for a very long time, but then decided to switch careers, close his company, and join the Youth Ministry.

After five years, Wayne became a bus driver for school children – but he didn’t want to be just their bus driver, he wanted to be their mentor.

The man really cares for the children on his bus, and he’s become quite the beloved figure to children and parents alike.

Whenever he gets the opportunity, he’ll have a chat with the kids.

Over multiple years, you build up a special bond, and Wayne is likely the first to know when a student is having a bad day.

And if that happens, this bus driver just needs to try and make it better!

During a chilly December morning, the kind bus driver got a phone call regarding the bus schedule.

Apparently, because of the stormy weather and the snow, schools would be closed for an additional two hours.

Now this doesn’t really sound like something kids would be sad about, does it? In fact, most students would probably rejoice if they were forced to miss school due to the weather and have a shorter school day, but not for these children in Montevallo.

The reason is quite simple, if they missed school, they wouldn’t have anything to eat during breakfast.

About 70 percent of the children who are registered at the Elementary School in the community are low-income students, and they apply for theNational School Lunch Program.

This amazing program is able to provide meals, brunches, and breakfasts for free or at a highly reduced price.

No school in the morning would automatically mean no breakfast either – all these kids would have to wait until midday to get some food in their bellies.

“For a lot of students that means that they won’t get to eat.

It speaks volumes to [Price’s] character that he was attuned to that,” Allison Campbell said to TODAY, who is the Principal of Montevallo Elementary School.

The bus driver couldn’t let this happen, so he made a quick detour. After all, they had the time now.

Wayne headed to the nearest McDonald’s restaurant, went inside, and had a special request for the manager.

“When I got to the McDonald’s, I asked the manager, ‘Can you turn around 50 biscuits in 15 minutes and can you give me as good of a deal as possible?’”

Wayne then walked out of the restaurant with a whole box of breakfast sandwiches and handed one out to each student on the bus.

“When the kids got on I said, ‘So, what do ya want? Sausage? McMuffin?” he said with a laugh.

“I just love my kids. I got a lot of fist bumps, lots of high-fives, lots of ‘Love you, Mr. Price,’ lots of ‘Thank you, Mr. Price.’”

Montevallo Elementary posted about this extremely kind and generous act on their Facebook page, and it quickly went viral across the world.

“Mr. Price, one of our bus drivers, truly demonstrates the spirit of Christmas!” they wrote. “On Tuesday, when school was delayed due to icy roads, and we weren’t able to serve breakfast, he purchased biscuits from McDonald’s for his entire bus of students. What a kind act that our students will forever remember!”

“Thank you, Mr. Price, for making a lasting impact in the lives of our students!”

The world would truly be a much better place if there were more people like Wayne Price around.

What an awesome bus driver!
