Siblings Caught Holding Hands To Pray Before Their First Day To School

2020 has been a tough year.

We’ve had to deal with global pandemics, police violence, riots, and rising unemployment rates.

Many families are struggling to get by and are doing anything that they can to keep their heads above water–this being the case for one family down in Louisiana.

And the three kids in that family decided that the best thing that they could do was get together and pray before school.

Eugene, Jorden, and Emily showed up on their first day of school with plenty of uncertainty floating around in their heads.

Things like: will their classes be canceled, will they be allowed to be close to their friends, can they expect to be in school all year?

But these unusual back-to-school questions weren’t all that they were wondering about.

Their parents had recently lost their jobs and the family’s apartment due to circumstances related to COVID-19.

So in a quiet moment of desperation and humility, the kids decide to hold hands and pray.

Their mother snapped a photo of the precious moment and it quickly went viral.

Now, I’m not religious.

However, my parents are, and I grew up going to church with them on most Sundays.

I’ve seen what the power of prayer can mean to those who choose to do it.

And I’ve felt the energy of an entire room of people focusing their thoughts on one particular issue.

You don’t need to be religious in order to appreciate the sentiment that these kids expressed on their first day of school.

There is something very powerful about multiple people coming together and focusing their energy on one particular issue that needs resolution.

As a nation, we’ve fallen on some very hard times.

If there was ever a time to come together and focus our energy in one direction, this is it.

And of course, amidst all this uncertainty, we find ourselves coming into one of the most divisive events in our nation’s history–the presidential election.

No matter what side of the fence you fall on, I think that we can all agree that we are more divided on this issue than any other.

But now is not the time to choose sides and divide our county.

These kids from Lousiana are a great example of what we should be doing instead of arguing and fighting.

And I’m not necessarily talking about prayer.

If that is something that you believe in, then, by all means, pray as often and as hard as you can.

I’m simply talking about taking a moment and coming together as a nation in order to fight for the things that really matter–the safety and well-being of all Americans.

This family is dealing with a lot of stress at a very difficult time.

And their kids now have to carry some of the weight as well.

As kids, their only responsibility should be getting their homework done and paying games with their friends.

But during these times they are forced to take on much more responsibility than they should have to.

So whether you believe in God or not, don’t be afraid to come together during this time and focus your thoughts on the issues that really matter–just like the three kids from Louisiana did.
