True love is an amazing thing. If you are lucky enough to experience it in your lifetime, you may be acutely aware that this love, or any love really, is finite.
Eventually, something will separate you from your love, it could be distance, the end of a relationship, or even death.
There’s a forest of oak trees in Gloucestershire, England that holds a hidden secret.
When Winston Howes lost his wife of 33 years, Janet, to heart failure, he wanted to create a fitting tribute to the woman who was the love of his life.
So, he decided to plant a beautiful forest as a special place to go and be with her memory.
In the middle of the forest, in a place that can not be seen from the road or even the outside of the forest (it can only be seen from the air), he made a heart-shaped clearing.
In that clearing is a bench.
“I thought it was a great idea–it was a flash of inspiration—and I planted several thousand oak trees.
Once it was completed we put a seat in the field, overlooking the hill near where she used to live,” Howes told the Daily Mail.
“I sometimes go down there, just to sit and think about things. It is a lovely and lasting tribute to her which will be here for years”.
Winston didn’t advertise his tribute, but a few have had the joy of seeing it from the air and experiencing just a little bit of the affection that Winston felt for Janet.
The hot air balloonist who discovered this hidden heart, Andy Collett, told the Daily Mail, “this was the most amazing sight I have ever seen from the sky. You can just imagine the love story”.
