What would you do in this situation?
Long and delayed flights are always stressful. You may only be sitting throughout, but you are also unable to move around and do anything else.
The only thing that could relieve us from that is to have a peaceful flight and finally land home.
But not all flights would be as peaceful as we want them to be.
Sometimes, being in a plane full of people would mean something might come up and disrupt what little peace you have. Some may end up being rude, impolite, or insensitive.
What would you do if a passenger near you was rude? How would you deal with the situation? Food blogger, traveler, and social media influencer Julie Christensen found herself in that situation and took it to social media to teach everyone a lesson.
Long Flights and Running out of Patience
Julie was on an Aegean Airlines flight last September 29. It was a long and delayed flight from Athens to Amsterdam, and she was tired. All she wanted was to get some rest on that flight.
However, a woman seated in front of her seemed to test what little patience Julie had left for the day. She couldn’t believe what the woman had done.
Beautiful Locks and Unnecessary Drapes
The woman draped her beautiful, freshly-washed brunette hair over her seat and down to Julie’s stowaway tray. Worse, it almost dipped into her coffee.
She filmed the incident, posted it on TikTok, and wrote, “I wish this was staged.” Sadly, it wasn’t. Her followers were quick to chime in with their thoughts.
Some people made fun puns of the incident; others were appalled at what the woman did and judged that it was improper airplane etiquette, and a few suggested what she could have done to her in revenge.
No Energy Left to Spend
However, some people asked Julie why she never confronted the woman.
Julie explained that she was tired and got no energy left to spend on confronting her. She also said it didn’t bother her that much since she had enough legroom to spare. She simply got her cup from the tray and held it in her hand to enjoy – before any of the woman’s hair came swimming inside the cup!
Despite the suggestions to get revenge, Julia said that it was something she would never do.
“People get fired up because it’s a very rude thing to do. Maybe other people would’ve reacted differently or even aggressively to this, but, for me — I’m used to it,” Julie told Fox News Digital.
How to Deal?
According to Jacqueline Whitmore, founder and director of The Protocol School of Palm Beach, the best way to deal with such a situation is to do it with kindness. No matter how rude the other person may be or how irritated you are, be the better person and approach the other party kindly.
She suggested saying things politely and kindly and making it sound like you are looking for the other person’s welfare, too, and not just yours. You can always ask the flight attendant for help if they fail to correct their mistake.
Jacqueline added that passengers should be spatially aware, especially that people need to respect as much personal space as possible.
