The story of a 5-year-old girl with autism mistaking a bride for Cinderella is melting hearts online.
Layla Lester is a big fan of Disney princesses, owning most of the Disney Princess fashion dolls.
When Layla and her mother saw a woman in a wedding dress at Akron Falls Park, Layla mistook her for the famous princess Cinderella.
The woman in question was actually Olivia Spark, a heavy equipment operator from Western New York.
Layla’s mother Jessica recalls hearing Layla scream “Cinderella, Cinderella!” as she ran away.
In an interview with CBS News, Jessica said that she normally chases after Layla and apologizes for her behavior.
However, in this instance, Olivia warmly welcomed Layla and played along with her, talking to her for a while before heading back to her wedding.
Since their encounter, Olivia and Layla have kept in touch, with Olivia even showing up at Layla’s house in her wedding dress at the request of the news station.
Moved by the encounter, Olivia and her family started a GoFundMe campaign to help Layla and her family travel to Disney World to meet more princesses.
Layla’s story is a reminder that a small act of kindness can make a huge difference in someone’s life, especially for children like Layla who find joy in Disney magic.
Her mother was touched by Olivia’s willingness to take the time to talk to her daughter, saying, “It meant a lot that I didn’t need to apologize for her.” Layla’s love for Disney princesses has now been taken to a whole new level, thanks to the kindness of a stranger.
