Dog stops woman driving down the road to help her and her puppies.
Ashley Boggs was driving down a forested road when the car in front of her stopped.
Was there an accident? Was there a problem with the car? Was there a roadblock?
Then the car moved and Ashley thought it was fine until she saw the reason why the car stopped. A brown dog was barking at the cars, hoping someone would stop.
No one stopped until Ashley came.
Ashley works with Miracle for Satos Rescue and rescues stray dogs (and sometimes stray cats) all the time. She is used to responding to rescue calls and recognizing the signs when animals are in distress.
When Ashley saw the dog on the street, she knew she needed to stop.
Ashley got out of the car and noticed the dog was actually a nursing mom. Where were her puppies?
Ashley followed the dog and her question was answered. The dog led her to two puppies, who were lying on the ground close to the road.
She took the momma and her puppies to the car before going back to check if there were more puppies.
Ashley confirmed there were more when she heard cries coming from the woods. When she entered the forest, that’s when she saw the other puppies.
In fact, there were four more puppies in the woods!
“I was surprised that there were so many,” Ashley said. “I was also sad because I knew that they wouldn’t have survived if I hadn’t found them. There was no food or water left, and they were in a very secluded area. It is joyful and sorrowful all at the same time. They were just so adorable.”
Ashley found a discarded crate by the puppies and knew they had been dumped.
At least the crate served another purpose. Ashley used it to carry the four puppies to the car.
Once she got into the car, she placed the two other puppies inside the crate so they were all together.
Ashley brought all seven dogs to the shelter, where they’ll receive the best care.
The dog momma (they named her Goji) was so grateful to Ashley and kept kissing and hugging her. Because they received so much love from the shelter, they seemed to have let go of their past and embrace their new life.
The dogs have become the shelter’s favorite because they’re so affectionate and loving.
“The mom is such an angel,” Ashley shared. “She is very loving and enjoys when people come in and pet her. The puppies are extremely playful. They love to play with the volunteers and tug on the shoe laces.”
And guess what?
Two of the puppies have already been adopted and soon, the others will find their forever homes, too.
