High school choir serenades captain with stirring song for his last flight

Ronald Smith took his last flight out from Chicago to Brussels on August 18th.

For 32 fruitful years, Ronald flew with pride for United Airlines.

This pilot earned his wings a long time ago and yet to most of us, we still regard men like him as heroes.

Flying a plane means you’re responsible for all those lives.

The choir of LGE (Lycée des Garçons d’Esch-sur-Alzette) from Luxembourg decided to serenade Smith onboard with Coldplay’s “Viva la vida” as a thank you present for all his years of duty.

Once you fly, you don’t want to land. Or so they say.

The idea behind this impromptu serenade was simple.

The students waited for all the other passengers to get off and as soon as that was done, they assembled in place and waited for Captain Smith to come out.

Then they began to sing.

Why the song? Because it means “Long live life“.

LGE begin serenading the retiring pilot while the other flight attendants stood around to record the amazing talent as well as enjoy the experience.

The blending is beautiful and the tone rich and stunning.

Bet you Smith began to look back on his long career, remembering his training, new friends, and many experiences that are now going into the memory bank.

It was a solid run, good sir.

“I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own”

The plane’s acoustics did wonders for all those voices.

Ronald loved being a pilot and it shows.

Time literally flew by for this man and he proved to everyone that if your job is something you love to do, it won’t feel like work at all.

Smith’s daughter, Lindsay, left a comment saying,

“This is my dad and I wanted to thank each and every one of you for this beautiful gift.

He was very touched and so was the whole family. He is a great pilot and and an even better Dad, thank you for doing this for him.

I know you have no way of knowing this but Coldplay is one of his favorite bands so you couldn’t have chosen a better song. Thank you! ❤️”

This was the moment Ronald was crowned king.

Over 1.9 million views and 59 thousand likes and growing.

These are moments the media should be focusing on. It’s been nothing but the pandemic, politics, wars, and natural disasters.

We need love to go around!

Ronald has done nothing but smile during the choir’s amazing singing, and I suspect he was holding back tears.

“That was beautiful! Wow! Thank you so much. That was amazing.”

Says the retiring Smith amidst the applause.

We may not see them during trips, but pilots are awesome people.

And this one may have retired but that doesn’t mean he can’t fly anymore. Spread your wings, captain! Long live!
