Senior Couple Who Met As Toddlers Celebrates 64 Years Of Marriage

  • by

There’s no one-size-fits-all secret when it comes to a long-lasting marriage, but this lovely couple has found ways to make theirs work for more than 60 years.

Joel and Carolyn LaPray grew up next door in a neighborhood in Western Idaho. Their parents were neighbors and friends, so the two kids would also hang out and play together all the time.

One random day, their parents decided to take a picture of them, which, little did they know, would be a significant remembrance of how their relationship would begin.

During the war, Joel and Carolyn’s parents left Western Idaho so they didn’t meet again until after the war.

The two families moved to Logan, Utah where Joel and Carolyn met again.

Joel and Carolyn didn’t spend as much time together as they did when they were toddlers because they both had different sets of friends and interests.

The two only chatted occasionally until sophomore year when Joel asked Carolyn to come with him to the Military Ball.

During that night, Joel realized that she might be the one he was going to marry. And lo and behold, he did. They exchanged vows when he was 19 and she was 18, and they have since been together.

Joel and Carolyn now have six children together, 25 grandchildren, and more than thirty great-grandchildren.

When asked what their secret to a happy and long-lasting marriage is, Joel responded, “We each have different opinions, we compromise, we do it her way. That keeps mama happy.”
